It is the Holiday Season, and nursing homes throughout Texas are once more getting ready to treat their residents to a series of special treats that will make the coming holidays the most memorable of all. Behind the scenes, some of the most loving people on earth will be toiling untold hours to make sure those they serve — the elderly, and people of all ages undergoing special therapies and rehabilitations — will be cared for like family.

It has been my honor, over the past 35 years, to work closely with some of the best nursing homes in Texas. One thing I’ve noticed, over that period, makes me smile every time I think about it: the staff that mans these nursing facilities constitutes the cream of America. It has always been that way, but the amazing thing is that it has only gotten better. Yes, today the administrators and their staffs, the nurses and their aides, the dietary managers with their cooks, dishwashers, and dietitians, the housekeepers, floor-techs, and laundry personnel, and the maintenance personnel in the nursing facilities in Texas have never been more dedicated, competent, and hard-working than they are right now.

Every one of these wonderful people is an unsung hero. Most Texans hardly know they even exist, yet day after day they dedicate and re-dedicate themselves to jobs that most of us shy away from. Every day they serve us and our loved ones in need, with smiles on their faces. That makes them very special. We owe them all a great debt of gratitude. In this article I would love to tell some of the heroic, behind-the-scenes tales of special outpourings of love that happen every day in nursing homes throughout Texas. Were it not for privacy concerns that prevent me from doing so, a steady stream of such tales would proceed, below. But that’s ok. The important thing is that they care, even when the miraculous deeds they perform go unreported.

In the midst of these heroic people are a few whose halos sparkle with a special brightness. It is to them, in particular, that this article is dedicated. As mentioned earlier, their names won’t be posted here, because — like most of the special people around us — they prefer not to call attention to themselves. But we know who they are, and we are deeply thankful for them and the work they do.

We at EntomoBiotics Inc. wish a Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas to all the special people who serve in our Texas Nursing Homes…
